Annapurna Base Camp trek starts from the foothills of Annapurna range taking you through beautiful paddy field terraces, culturally rich villages and warm-hearted people with their contagious smile. This trip is also known as Annapurna Sanctuary Trek as the name was given by a British Army Officer, Colonel Jimmy Roberts due to its sacred mountain – Fishtail which is called Machapucchare in Nepali.
The trail to Annapurna Base Camp makes its way following the narrow Modi gorge filled with mixed forests and bamboo thickets. The majestic peaks of the Himalayas soaring high up in the sky are an enticement to for anyone planning to visit Nepal which boasts to have the eight out of fourteen 8000 meter mountains in the world.
Every year thousands of tourists come to Nepal to see, trek and even climb these spectacular mountains. Many of this trek is in higher elevation involving the risk of Acute Mountain Sickness and are also time-consuming. Annapurna Base Camp is a perfect trek which takes you right into the cradle of the Annapurna massif and the sacred peak of Macchapucchare.
Annapurna region abounds with many wildlife including the elusive red panda, common langur, Himalayan black bear, deer, and predators like leopards. As you approach Annapurna Base Camp, the tall trees are replaced by alpine meadows leading to the beautiful amphitheater of snowcapped mountains where the famous Annapurna Base Camp is located.
