Typical Day with Mystic Himalaya Trekking

Our trekking day commences with a morning delivery of tea, coffee, or hot chocolate to your room by your assistant guide. This is followed by a warm washing water bowl brought to your room. Then you will have a time to organize, packing essential items for the day into your day pack, including sunglasses, sunscreen, sun hat, mobile phone, camera, cash, passport, rain jacket, rain pant, day pack cover, fleece jacket, water bottle, and optional snacks. Once organized, leave your duffel bag outside your room for collection by our staff. We will give you an hour to prepare your duffel bag, and breakfast will be served in the main dining hall.

Our breakfast begins with hot porridge with milk and honey, accompanied by tea or coffee. This is followed by your choice of eggs with bread, butter, and jam. While you enjoy your breakfast, our porters head to the next campsite, aiming to reach it before the group. After breakfast, we recommend some stretching before hitting the trail. Ensure you haven't left anything in the lodge by thoroughly checking your room before departure, although our staff also conducts a final check. Our lead assistant guide will call "Zum Zum" in Nepali, meaning 'Let’s Go,' and we embark on a scenic stroll under the care of our reliable staff.

After approximately 4 hours of walking, we pause for lunch amidst nature's beauty, offering breathtaking mountain views. In higher elevations, most days involve lunch and camping due to rapid elevation gain. If the day is longer, we trek for 2 to 3 hours after lunch before checking into our lodge to rest. At 4 pm, tea is served with biscuits. A bowl of warm washing water is also provided in the afternoon, either before or after tea. Spend time with the group or our staff, listening to their stories. Dinner is served at 6:30 pm, beginning with a hot bowl of soup with snacks, followed by the main course and dessert. Hot drinks are offered five times a day to ensure you stay adequately hydrated. After dinner, our staff provides hot water bags to keep you warm during the night and refills your water bottle. This concludes our day.

Detail Itinerary

In the early evening, your duffel bag, sleeping bag, inner liner, and down jacket will be distributed, followed by a trek briefing. At 7 pm, there's a welcome dinner at a traditional Nepali restaurant-an excellent chance to bond with your fellow group members before the trip begins. Enjoy your overnight stay in Kathmandu at Kathmandu Guest House. (Dinner included)

Your journey begins with a breathtaking 45-minute flight from Kathmandu to Bhadrapur, the gateway to eastern Nepal. As you soar above the clouds, enjoy panoramic views of the majestic Himalayas, lush valleys, and winding rivers below. Upon landing in Bhadrapur, a warm, subtropical town in Nepal’s lowlands, you will embark on a scenic 6 to 7-hour drive toward Phidim. The route winds through picturesque tea gardens, terraced fields, and charming hillside settlements, gradually transitioning from the warm plains to cool, forested hills. Along the way, glimpses of distant snow-capped peaks add to the beauty of the landscape. As you ascend through winding mountain roads, Nepal’s diverse topography and rural charm unfold before you. By evening, you’ll arrive in Phidim, a picturesque hill town nestled among rolling hills and lush forests, offering enchanting views of the eastern Himalayas. Overnight at Phidim. (Breakfast/Lunch/Dinner included).

We leave Phidim and set off on a scenic drive toward Chiruwa, a picturesque village nestled along the banks of the Tamor River. The journey takes us through rugged landscapes, winding past dense forests, terraced fields, and remote hillside villages. As we navigate the undulating terrain, the scenery gradually shifts from lush greenery to steeper valleys carved by the rushing waters of the Tamor River. Despite the rough roads, the drive is rewarded with breathtaking views of the Himalayas, cascading waterfalls, and glimpses of traditional village life. After this challenging yet visually stunning journey, we finally arrive at Chiruwa, where the soothing sounds of the river set a tranquil backdrop for the night. Overnight at Chiruwa. (Breakfast/Lunch/Dinner included.)

The trek from Chiruwa to Sukethum takes approximately 5 to 6 hours, following the Tamor River through dense forests, terraced fields, and traditional villages. The trail gradually ascends through a narrow valley, revealing stunning views of waterfalls, rocky cliffs, and lush subtropical vegetation. Passing through small settlements like Tapethok, we enter the Kanchenjunga Conservation Area, where permits are checked before continuing. The journey is both rewarding and enjoyable, with subtle changes in the landscape as we weave through large boulders and cross a landslide-prone section before reaching a bridge over the Simbuwa Khola, a tributary of the Tamor River that originates from Kanchenjunga’s southern slopes. As we advance, we traverse several suspension bridges over fast-flowing rivers, immersing ourselves in the raw beauty of the region. The terrain becomes steeper, and the narrowing river gorge adds to the dramatic scenery. The final stretch follows the Gunsa Khola, another tributary of the Tamor River, before we arrive at Sukethum, a serene village surrounded by towering hills and dense forests. Overnight at Sukethum. (Breakfast/Lunch/Dinner included.)

Today’s trek is both challenging and rewarding as we follow the Gunsa Khola, navigating through dense forests and steep hills. As we climb, the valley gradually opens up, offering breathtaking birds-eye views of the river below. The trail transitions from lush forests to temperate vegetation, passing through isolated settlements, bamboo groves, and cascading waterfalls. Along the way, we cross several suspension and wooden bridges, adding an element of adventure to the journey. The final stretch involves a steady ascent along a ridgeline, providing stunning scenic views before reaching Amjilosa, a hillside village inhabited by locals of Tibetan origin. From here, panoramic views of the surrounding hills make for a perfect reward after a day’s trek. Overnight at Amjilosa. (Breakfast/Lunch/Dinner included.)

The trek winds through dense forests of bamboo, rhododendron, and pine, with the soothing sound of the Gunsa Khola accompanying our journey. As we gain altitude, the terrain becomes steeper and more challenging, leading us through yak pastures and traditional yak huts that offer a glimpse into the Tibetan-influenced culture, reflected in both architecture and lifestyle. The trail ascends gradually, and after a rewarding climb, we arrive at Gyabla, a picturesque village nestled among hills, surrounded by lush forests and cascading waterfalls, making it a perfect resting spot. Overnight at Gyabla.(Breakfast/Lunch/Dinner included.)

Leaving Gyabla, we venture deeper into the Kanchenjunga region, where the landscape transforms dramatically. As we continue, the dense forest gradually gives way to open meadows and yak pastures, offering a striking contrast to the lush greenery behind. Along the way, we cross wooden bridges over glacial streams before reaching Phole, a small Tibetan refugee settlement. Here, we take a break for lunch and have the opportunity to visit a local monastery, observe daily village life, and witness the traditional art of carpet weaving. After Phole, the trail becomes gentler, with a gradual ascent leading us to Ghunsa, the largest village in the region. Upon arrival, we are greeted by a breathtaking alpine setting, surrounded by towering snow-capped peaks. Along the way, we may encounter Himalayan wildlife such as blue sheep, ibex, and mountain goats, while smaller creatures like hyrax and marmots scurry among the rocks. Overhead, birds of prey, including eagles, vultures, kites, and falcons, soar against the vast Himalayan sky. Crossing several wooden bridges over glacial streams, we finally arrive at the beautiful yak pastureland of Khangpachen, a seasonal settlement used by yak herders and trekkers. Overnight at Khangpachen. (Breakfast/Lunch/Dinner included.)

EBC 2018 – Amazing

I completed the Everest Base Camp trek with my wife and two great friends in October 2018. The trip was amazing with some of the best scenery on the planet. The Nepalese people are wonderful and so welcoming to visitors. Our trip and itinerary was perfectly put together by Binoy and the team at Mystic Himalaya and the trek superbly guided by Chogyal. This was my second EBC trek organized by Binoy and we’re already planning our return in 2020 to explore the Annapurna region. I highly recommend Mystic Himalaya Trekking and look forward to my next trek with them.

Amazeballs

After my husband's 12 years of incessant nagging, I finally agreed to trek to Everest Base Camp. Having kept in contact with Binoy from his last trek 16 years ago, we had the privilege of trekking with Mystic Himalaya. The professionalism and care shown by the Mystic team was outstanding. From the moment we were picked up from the airport, to the moment we were dropped back, we were completely taken care of. Everything was so well organised, and our trekking crew, Chogyal, Pemba, Buddhi and Sujan were fantastic, every step of the way. We will definitely be back.
TryhardTravelBug,

Wonderful trip to Nepal

We recently went on a trek and tour with Mystic Himalaya Trekking. It was one of the most adventurous and fun trips we have ever been on. One of the owners and our trekking guide named Binoy was the absolute best. I can’t even begin to say how informative he was about the area and how he attended to our every need. He has his own personal crew that hauled our bags and they cooked all our meals. They were so delicious. I would recommend anyone considering going on a trek to Nepal to check them out. I can’t imagine anyone else could be better than they were. Thanks for a memorable and amazing trip.
Brad and Vicki Godfrey,

Absolutely the best Nepal Guides

My son and I had the privilege of trekking with Pranoy and Pemba in the Mustang district, and it was an amazing experience. What sets the Mystic Himalaya experience above other treks is the depth of cultural knowledge and history that the guides have to offer. In addition to breathtaking scenery, we got a fascinating look at the history, architecture, and culture of that region, presented by a guide who is articulate and very well-educated in his field. And let's talk about logistics. We managed to hit the tail end of the monsoon season and got a LOT of rain. With limited time (only one week), our Plan A was to fly to Jomsom and start trekking there. Since planes weren't flying (and didn't for 3 more days), Pranoy got us a driver. We drove for a day and were halted by a massive landslide. Pranoy came up with a new itinerary, and we got some spectacular hiking on our way to Jomsom. With each new "obstacle," Pranoy came up with a new plan and we had a superb trek. We were joking that we went through Plan A, Plan B, Plan C, etc. and were on Plan E by the end. Every bit of it was gorgeous and a lot of fun! With all of those changes, we felt safe and extremely well cared-for. Food was excellent -- supervised and sometimes prepared by Pemba. Accommodations were very comfortable and exceeded expectations. Best of all, Pranoy stayed in constant communication with locals and other guides to ensure our safety every step of the way. With this team, you are working with real professionals that have guided for National Geographic. I wouldn't trek with anyone else -- they are the best!
